((Bwahahahaha FIRST PERSPECTIVE!))
There's only cold. I'm so used to feeling cold, but this isn't normal. It's cold where no warmth ever existed, or ever could exist. I haven't been scared in a long time. But now I'm scared. I died who knows how long ago. My own sister. But she did it for the safety of the forest. I would've done the same. I think. I'm scared because I don't know what I'm waking up to. I don't know where I am. It feels like water. But I can't tell which direction is up... or down. Everything's so jumbled. I don't know what scares me more; not knowing and finding out or not knowing and keeping it that way. I could be trapped in suspended animation. It's what I deserve. But maybe... maybe there's hope. No. There's no hope for me. There hasn't been, ever since everything went wrong. Everything. ((THIRD PERSON!)) Black Fire watched the silver pool rippling, and a dark golden mass of fur rose from it. It was Wheat, a loner. A practically evil cat, but he still had heart in him. Vincent and several others sat waiting on the jagged black rocks around the pool, staring as Wheat, completely disoriented, rose to the surface. |

The council of the Hollow gazed into the Watching Pool with stunned eyes. All were shocked. Could it be possible that this would happen? Nobody had expected this sort of revolt, but somehow it had happened. Lying suspended over the Watching Pool was a mass of cold black fur with misted silver eyes. A burnt gash stretched from his throat down to the end of his belly, and the fur was stained scarlet. Blackfire, the former leader and ruler of the Sun Lands, was dead.
Kiugen and Ess were side by side, their wise eyes troubled. "The Hollow may have been a war zone before, but... this is ludicrous!" Kiugen yelped over the murmurs of the other council members. Alleyshadow and Kiari nodded in agreement, and Alleyshadow rumbled bitterly, "It was said that the leader of a Land would rule it forever. Zeus never told any of us that we could die." Ess nodded and added ruminatively, "Nobody ever told us we could die." Wheat, the New God of Old Strength, stood looming over the Watching Pool, his broad frame motionless as he growled, "Nobody tells us anything. There's no point, we're all empty-headed and we'll forget anyways." Gallows, Wheat's mentor, nodded. "He's half-right." Vincent rumbled, "Perhaps... we need to watch again what took place..." His eyes clouded, and the water began to ripple and form into a picture. |

Osprey crouched in the Hollow, beside the Watching Pool. All around him, the emotions of the cats of the Hollow ebbed and flowed, like an endless tide he could not fight. His gift was growing stronger; he could feel the emotions of nearly every creature in the Hollow of Broken Hearts. He couldn't always identify who was feeling what, but he was learning to recognize the flavour of cat's feelings. Thunder's for example, were bright, and sharp and clear, but came quickly, like a lightning flash. His mother's emotions were harder to guess, they were vague, and dreamy, and slipped away from him just when he thought he had managed to pinpoint them. He sighed. He felt lost without Star. Without the pale golden tom, finding his way through the ocean of sadness and anger and hope and happiness was tiring and difficult. Osprey crept forward and looked into the Watching Pool. A golden shape flickered in it. Osprey frowned, and leaned forward. The golden shape appeared again, and this time it became clearer. It was a she-cat, with bloodied gold fur and sparkling green eyes. "Is there a medicine cat here?" She yowled, desperately. For a second, her eyes met Osprey's, then she looked away, and disappeared from view. Osprey sat back again, unsettled. Who was the she-cat, and why was she in the Watching Pool?
